Springfield, IL – The World Drag Racing Alliance (WDRA) proudly announces that the track formerly known as Capital City Motorsports Park has not only changed its name to Montgomery International Dragway but effective immediately has become the newest addition to the WDRA member track family. The 138 acre facility, which was originally built to national events specifications, has a three story tower with offices and media space, a set of VIP suites along with a 4,000 square foot workshop, concessions and merchandise facilities. The facility will become the new home of the 2024 WDRA Summit Sportsman Drag Racing Series World Championships.
Recently purchased by bracket racer Brad Wheeler, the facility has already received an entirely new Accutime Timing System including having its own electrical circuit installed and new photocells and surge protectors put in. Having a bulletproof timing system was priority number one for Brad as being a bracket racer himself he knows the system is the cornerstone of any great facility.
“WDRA was an easy choice” said Montgomery owner Brad Wheeler. “The racer in me is excited about the programs and benefits my racers will receive through the WDRA and the track owner side of me is really impressed with the track benefit programs WDRA has put together for their tracks. As a new owner that wants to grow the sport I love, the experience that the guys at WDRA have will be invaluable to me going forward.”
With its central location and easy access from many major highways, the facility has held many big bracket events over the years. Brad wasted no time in bringing the Great American 500k back to his newly acquired facility in October and has plans to welcome other major events to his facility in 2024 in addition to the WDRA Summit World Championships.
“Brad Wheeler is another perfect fit for the World Drag Racing Alliance because Brad understands both the business and racing side. Already owning a successful diesel performance business, Brad understands that WDRA is delivering tangible benefits to member tracks and racers. We will work with Brad to help him become a successful and thriving facility through WDRA’s unique member track benefit program and our ability to provide him with the knowledge-based resources he needs as Brad does his part to grow the sport” said WDRA’s Josh Peake. “We look forward to welcoming Montgomery International racers to the WDRA Summit Southern Bracket Finals presented by Laris Motorsports at Gulfport Dragway in September and the WDRA Summit Sportsman Drag Racing Series World Championships presented by Suncoast Performance in October.”
